We recently put a fire pit in our back yard! We have used it a lot already! The first time didn't go so well, though. :( Richard burned his hand on a roasting stick and Makenna got a little cinder in her eye. We didn't realize Makenna's eye was as bad as it was, because she just kept playing. We thought she just got smoke in her eye...then rubbed them with her dirty hands. She complained of it hurting and it was red and little swollen, but we thought that was because she had rubbed it so much. So when she woke up the next morning and ran into our room crying "it still hurts!", we were more worried. I got her an apt to see our eye doctor that morning. Sure enough we found the little speck that was irritating her eye. It was stuck under her eyelid and so everytime she blinked, it would scratch her eye. (Luckily we noticed that it hurt her to open it, so we patched it up the best we could. She had real pirate eye patch (the dress up kind) for the last 15 minutes or so...thanks Wendee!) Our doctor was able to get it out and he put some eye drops in that helped the pain and some gel stuff to keep the scratches from getting infected. As soon as we jumped in the car she said, "it doesn't hurt anymore mom!". I am glad that it was a pretty easy fix and that she is doing better now!
