Mean Dog

Last night we decided to go to our little town's Farmer's Market. We were walking a long and Bentley (our dog) saw two dogs and wanted to say hi...so we walked over towards them. There was a medium size white fluffy dog and a small dog...a mini pinscher. They were both on leashes and seemed okay with Bentley being there (they were wagging their tails and checking each other out). The other owners were not paying attention to their dogs at all. Kenna decided to go up and pet the little dog. She reached down to pet him and he bit her! She of course was so upset. She pulled her arm away and luckily he only left a scratch (which drew a little blood). Now I don't know about you...but if my dog had just bit a child, I would be apologizing left and right and making sure the child was okay. Not this dog's owner. She lectured us on how our daughter needs to learn not to go up to strange dogs (which by the way I agree with...we usually don't let her. But when you are in a public place, like the market, with your dog, people are going to assume that he is friendly...otherwise you would not have brought him). We needed to calm Kenna down, so we walked away. Richard decided later to go talk to the lady about how that dog is a bad dog and she should not have him in places like the market...and if she chooses to do so, she should at least pay very close attention to the dog. Apparently she is fostering this dog and has only had him for 2 weeks. She KNEW he was a mean dog, but had never seen him bit anyone before. So even though she knew he was a mean dog...she still brought him out into a public place, where little children are running all around. Grrr. It makes me angry. Nevertheless...we have learned a huge lesson! We were blessed to walk away with just a small scratch on her arm!
